Time for a Lyme Reboot

Like clockwork as the 2016 calendar goes up on the wall, the new year’s resolutions are written – in pencil and erasable ink, of course.

I too have been a new year’s resolution maker of sorts, for as long as I can remember.   Perhaps that isn’t the most reliable reference, since most days lately I can’t seem to recall what I’m doing one moment to the next.  For this point, let’s assume my memory goes waaaayyyy back to early adulthood – so just a few years ago.  What?  I’m only 23….and holding.  (I firmly believe women in particular should have the right to stop counting birthdays whenever they darn well feel like it!  Can I get an Amen!)

Snarkiness aside, goal setting for me has been happening for – uhh umm – decades.   Used to focus mainly on my career, fitness, travel and play, and how to be the best version of me I could be.   Rah! Rah!   You know, the typical goals most humans set for themselves.  A few hitches in life can cause a little refocus in the goal setting department.   With my health challenges being such a front and center – in your face – everyday – part of life, goals in the plural sense have been consolidated to one goal – finding wellness again.   Boring, but easy to remember!

The changing of the calendar year hasn’t altered my focus aimed toward the three R’s plus an H:  Remission, Recovery and Renewed Health.  After such a long and nasty (too many colorful descriptives to share) road last year, I am thankfully beginning to feel like progress is happening.  You know the adage…“no pain, no gain.”   Way too much pain for such little gain, but there has been gain.  #PositiveFocus

In keeping with the “NPNG” theme, I am truly itching to use that phrase more appropriately with respect to fitness and training, but slow down there Sally (whoever Sally is).   Reality, and those pesky Lyme spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb for short) persister cells, Babesia, Bartonnella, Mycoplasma microbes, and let’s not forget about the MTHFR gene mutation adding a kink, are ALL still CLEARLY running the show.

So for now I have – “good intentions” – as opposed to new year’s resolutions, written – in ink – to help with the forward motion and positive flow.   I have to be reasonable with my wishes and expectations, because there is still a LONG way to go down this convoluted path to wellness.   But make no mistake about it, kicking Lyme and friends to the curb remains el numero uno on the list!

For this Lymie chick, one day at a time it shall remain, with my focus of regaining energy and strength being more on a month by month basis.  Quite a significant contrast to the goals of years past.   The past is simply that…the past.   I am (currently) emotionally at peace with where life is, and looking forward to what this year has to offer.   Wow!   Such big girl thoughts.

Of course, this emotional – dare I say – stability is subject to change.   Check back with me, especially during a new/full moon cycle – ha!  My fellow Lymies get where I’m coming from.   Crazy and a little creepy, but true how the moon cycle effects our Lyme infested bodies. ?  (cue in si-fi music.)

In summary:  Remaining realistic in my expectations, yet still trying to push forward with a little sassiness and gusto will hopefully bring progress – even if only little by little.
