Patience. Never Give Up. Believe! Powerful Words for the Chronically Ill
Good things come to those who wait…
PATIENCE – truly is a virtue. Difficult at times to achieve, but a characteristic which can make us all stronger. Personally, I am constantly having to work on allowing myself to be more patient. Especially while waiting for good things (in the form of healthier days) to come.
Okay, true confession time. Patience is not one of my highest qualities. Just ask my husband, and anyone who knows me – ha! What can I say. My mother always told me I come by it honestly. Lack of patience is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of my family’s strongest and weakest traits. A not-so-flattering characteristic I’m afraid. It’s unclear if this quality/flaw is a learned response or seriously skewed DNA. Either way, thanks Dad!!?? Ha!
Back to my Blathering.
Life is filled with twists and turns, and a plethora of bumps along the way. We can either choose to adapt and patiently wait to see what the future provides, or drive ourselves crazy (wasting precious energy) worrying about the unknown; that which is out of our control.
This doesn’t mean we should corral our drive or initiative. We still should strive to make every circumstance and aspect of ourselves and this life better. Some things are quite simply out of our control. Health challenges and illness are prime examples, and often surrounded by the unknown. There are times when we have no choice but to let PATIENCE – and faith – take the lead. (Easier said than done, right?!)
Better things come to those who don’t give up…
NEVER GIVE UP – umm – for me, nuff said! Giving up is NOT an option. Better things – healthier days – are ahead. This is what keeps me fighting. Some days the fight might seem a little less fierce, where simply getting out of bed is all that may be accomplished. A victory nonetheless. When you are battling chronic illness(es), any and all triumphs are herculean.
There are times when it may seem that for every tiny step forward we make, there might be two giant steps backward to follow. It can be easy to feel defeated. But we have to keep fighting! Keeping focus toward better things – and days – that are to come – if we don’t give up. We must NEVER GIVE UP!
…the Best things come to those who Believe!
BELIEVE – oh how I love this word! Because I believe, this is how I know better days and the best things are yet to come.
My faith gives me the strength to keep fighting. Even on the darkest of days – I BELIEVE!
Regardless of all that accompanies living with chronic Lyme disease and coinfections: the day-to-day (sometimes hour-to-hour) ups and downs, and this constant battle to find wellness – I believe I will become stronger and healthier once again.
I’m not blinded by platitudes, hype, or false hope. I do live in reality! But I also believe in the power of positive thinking. However, this is not always easy, even for this glass-half-full kinda gal. There are days, sometimes weeks, where staying upbeat and optimistic is quite the challenge. When bedridden for days on end, the negative thoughts and questions can worm their way in: “Am I on the right treatment protocol?”, “When will this pain and constant suffering end?”, “Will I live an active life again?”, “Will I ever get well?” – to highlight only a few of nagging thoughts.
These are the dig down deep moments when you really have to BELIEVE! Keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground while maintaining a positive outlook; finding balance is complicated to say the least, but important during the healing process of any journey. (Once more, easier said than done!)
However arduous my personal chronic illness battle has been, and may continue to be for who knows how long – this is my path. I believe I am to use the tools I’ve been given in this life to find my way, and hopefully be able to reach out to others throughout this journey. I BELIEVE! And I’m keeping the faith that I am on the right track.
I hope you too BELIEVE – in whatever higher power you seek – that healthier, stronger, and yes – the best things – and days are yet to come. May you have PATIENCE along your personal journey, and most importantly – NEVER GIVE UP your fight!
Until my next Blathering….
Wishing for you Many Bessings and positive vibes – always!

4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
I have often read that scripture and thought about how does patience have it’s perfect work, it has to be in developing
the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, or suffering without getting angry or upset.
You are doing that each day! So, keep on keep’n on.
