What’s in a Name? New— Reflections with Terry

What is in a name? Does it really matter?

Several months ago this blog had a little work done: new website + faceliftColorMeLyme became Blatherings with Terry; changes prompted by desire to broaden my blogging/writing horizons, to move ever so slightly away from all things Lyme, all the time. And since my speaking style (in person and through writing) often parallels rambling, the name Blatherings with Terry seemed fitting and light-hearted.

Over time, life, people, things tend to change, hopefully evolving for the better. Since the website makeover in October (2019) my focus and blog content have meandered somewhat. Perhaps a little less senseless blathering and more purposeful reflection? (she writes with a self-questioning inflection)

When able to muster up the oomph to blog/write, it comes from a thankful spark of inspiration. Such moments may be scarce and often fleeting, but am truly grateful whenever experiencing a nudge to create and share my thoughts. Wish I could write with consistency and discipline similar to other bloggers and writers. Maybe one day… (when I grow up! lol!)

Time for a new name?

A dear friend has thoughtfully expressed disapproval over the name, “Blatherings with Terry”. Repeatedly! At first I was like, but that’s my name? Then I realized this caring friend meant the “Blatherings” part, not “with Terry”. (silly me. i’m not the brightest starfish in the sea! … few may find that phrase clever. it’s one of many words/sayings i’ve “created” over the years— fondly referred to as terryisms— also known as lyme-brain-speak mixed with self-diagnosed dyslexia. let me tell you, brain fog + a twisted tongue provides for interesting conversations… and comic relief for my husband!)

Anyway, the seeds of “should I change the name?” were planted, thoughts rethunk (terryism), purpose of blog re-evaluated. Bottom line, this wonderful friend got inside my head! (you know who you are!😂 … and, thank you!)

After pondering the hopes I have for my blog (and writing), it does appear befitting for (yet another) name adjustment. Why not? Let’s keep things fresh!

Life is like underwear, change is good.

So, lovelies, from this moment forward (or until I fancy otherwise) this blog— future blathering thoughts about life, short stories, poetry, newsletters, sarcasm, unsolicited opinions, desertscapes, etc.— shall be known as Reflections… by, of and with me… for your hopeful enjoyment.

With that, I shall wrap up this little blog change announcement.

Until my next blathering reflection…

Be well, stay safe… and hopeful, now more than ever.

Blessings always!

—Terry xx

Feel free to offer your take on the name change, or the blog in general. I welcome critique and creative suggestions, it helps me grow!

Deep Thoughts….

Over here reflecting about life, illness + healing. Offering encouragement + empathy + support. Sharing smatterings of sarcasm + sass. Oozing with opinion. Speaking my truth. —tmm

Terry, I just want you to know I love the new name!! Makes me happier to see that word than “blatherings,” although I do completely understand that word as a “lymie.” I look forward to your “Reflections” posts! Hope you’re doing well!!
    Warm regards,
    Jaime

I love the new name, Terry! I have to admit, I don’t care for the connotations that seem to go along with the word blathering. Maybe because it’s usually attached to the word idiot and the two are by no means exclusive, nor does our brain fog make us idiots even when we feel like we are! 😁 I think the new name works much better and it’s great that you’re expanding to write about anything and everything that strikes your fancy! I have two blogs and it’s a giant pain and still doesn’t cover everything I want to write about. Lol.

Thank you, Michelle, for the encouragement and support! Wish I had the oomph to write and share more often. One day at a time. It’s what we do! Understand completely about the two blogs being a tad cumbersome. Keep sharing you!! Hugs, friend.🌸🦋

Great blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally confused .. Any tips? Cheers!
