Why I Have Chosen Safer Skincare Products

WHY WE SHOULD CHOOSE SAFER AND HEALTHY SKINCARE PRODUCTS:

Before I dive right into the meat and potatoes (moisturizers and lipstick), let me make a small confession.  I have a history — okay, slight obsession with my personal space being “clean”.  Don’t even think of touching me with dirty hands!  Cough in my breathing space, oh no you didn’t!

Most of my life I’ve been a bit of an uptight germophobe, with significant OCD tendencies. Not to the extreme of an actual clinical diagnosed disorder, but definite strong characteristics.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.  Oh, I own it!

Adding to the mix are my highly opinionated, strong-willed, and bossy traits.  These personality “bonuses” are all part of my DNA.  What can I say?!

I Yam What I Yam!

Bottom line:  “Clean” is important to me.

Full Disclosure:  In absolute incongruous behavior, I allow my cats to roam hither and thither throughout the entire house.  Including kitchen and bathroom counters.  I have no explanation! Well, other than I would give a kidney to my precious fur babies, if such a thing was possible.  Nuff said.

So, yes, cat dna is wafting about this germophobe’s house.

Solution:  Air purifiers!

Now that we have established my need to be “clean” (with a cat exemption), on to the important topic at hand:

Safe and healthy skincare.  It matters!

SAFER SKINCARE PRODUCTS AND WHY WE SHOULD CARE:

1 in 8

Not only breast cancer, we should be concerned by the overall rise of disease and chronic illness as a whole.  We have all been touched by cancer and serious illnesses. Either through personal experience or we know of someone who is fighting fiercely, or has heartbreakingly lost their battle.

Do the chemicals and toxins we unknowingly and innocently absorb through our skin play a significant role?

This non-expert, highly opinionated peep says… uh, Yeah!

Even though I stand firm with my germophobe/OCD-ish opinion, let me share some additional information for you to ponder:

“Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.

There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.

What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids’ bodies every single day, day after day, and to make their own judgments about safety.

IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE.

The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.

Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date.”  Beautycounter.com

WHY I CHOSE SAFER AND HEALTHY SKINCARE PRODUCTS:

After my stem cell therapy in August 2017, I was advised to eliminate as many toxins as possible from my life.  Extremely necessary to allow for the safest environment for my stem cells to do their thang. Avoiding toxins includes everything that could be inhaled, ingested, and absorbed through my skin and hair.

Short of encompassing myself within a (fashionable) protective bubble, I consciously chose to use only safe, non-toxic, and healthy products from head to toe.

Further note:  Eliminating toxins includes putting a kibosh on emotional stress.  Unrelated to skincare, but definitely worthy of sharing.

All toxins are bad news!

WHY BEAUTYCOUNTER PRODUCTS:

After a great deal of research, along with trial and error of several products and brands, I ultimately chose Beautycounter.

I started using Beautycounter (BC) foundation, along with a few other beauty products a while back.  I’ve never been a fan of how heavy liquid foundation felt on my skin, so for years I used powder foundation. Let’s just say, the older we get the more coverage is necessary! Once I tried BC tint skin hydrating foundation, I was instantly impressed with the featherweight feel and full coverage.  Yep, I was in makeup heaven!  (such a girly thing!)

I was a tad hesitant to dip my toe further into the Beautycounter pool.  Skincare is a tricky thing for me.  I have extremely sensitive skin thanks to Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD/MCAS) — histamine issues and hormonal imbalances, combined with sensitivities due to chronic Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. Plus, I’m leary of trying new skincare in general.  It’s an investment, and what if I don’t like these new “fancy schmancy” and expensive products?!

Once I learned more about Beautycounter’s founder, their mission, and the purity of their products – with the importance of my added need to use CLEAN, toxic-free skincare – I womaned up and made the change. The 60 day return policy (if not satisfied with any product) helped to make my plunge into the deep end a little easier.

I’m all in kids!  Swimming full-length of the BC pool:  skincare, body, hair care, and beauty products.  If I had small children, I’d be using the baby and kid lines too – for certain!

Note to self:  Order kids collection to keep on hand for when the grandkiddos come visit.

Now that I am using the full line of Beautycounter products, I am geeking out in love!  The added relief of knowing I’m no longer slathering nasty chemicals all over my body – only to be absorbed and do who knows what – is a HUGE LOVE!

THE MOST IMPORTANT AND PRIMARY REASON FOR MY CHOOSING BEAUTYCOUNTER:

All BC products, including the packaging, are safe from harmful chemicals!  An absolute necessity while battling illness.

Safer AND Luxurious – YES!

Using safer and healthy products should be a priority for everyone trying to live a healthy lifestyle.

WHY I CHOSE TO BECOME A BEAUTYCOUNTER CONSULTANT:

I started as a BC Band of Beauty Member, ordering from a fellow Lyme Warrior and friend. Thank you, Lauren, for the introduction!

The Band of Beauty Member Program is a great way to save money, receive special offers and free shipping.  I’m sure hubby appreciated the additional discount I received too – ha!  The complimentary gift when signing up is always something fantastic.

Once I took the plunge to go all in, it became obvious the next step was to become a BC Consultant. I am thankful for the greater savings I receive with my purchases, not to mention the added bonuses and earnings potential.  In addition, I’ve been fortunate to meet some lovely ladies along the way.  Although our introductions and friendships have developed online, I’m grateful for my new tribe!

Being chronically ill (but HEALING!) and housebound the majority of the time, having a business like this offers great flexibility.   I am Remaining Hopeful the housebound portion will change for me over the next several months as my body continues to heal.  Perhaps even the business aspect of my Beautycounter Sr. Consultant status will increase. This would be an added blessing!
